About Bishop Newman Bishop Le’Roy C.E. Newman has been pastor of the Friendly Church of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. since 1971. Under his leadership, the church’s membership has grown tremendously with two Sunday morning services, Bible Class and various other evening services. His ministerial outreach extends not only in the Southeast Queens area, but also to the Far Rockaway community where he makes the weekly round-trip pilgrimage each Sunday to pick up members and potential members. Bishop Newman’s vision is to contract an edifice that will accommodate an educational ministry\y which include a certified Bible Institute, a video ministry that would enhance the outreach of the church, and the acquisition of the adjacent properties to accommodate this vision. Currently, the church is planning to renovate the building which will expand the sanctuary. The membership’s involvement in fundraising under his leadership has increased as they strive to reach their goals to make pastoral vision a reality. Bishop Newman is highly respected as a religious and political leader in the community where he actively serves in many organizations. His services include membership in the Queens Clergy Association, Southeast Queens Clergy Alliance, the National Business Association, the Metropolitan Business Association, the Local Chapter of NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Council and the Black Businessman Association. Bishop Newman graduated from Blanch Ely High School located in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1963. In 1965, he joined the US Army and spent two years in the European Theater. In 1978, Bishop Newman received a Bachelors of Science from York College in Sociology; he also later holds a Masters and a Ph.D. in the Sociology of Religion. He is presently the Education Director of Global Business Institute, where he is responsible for the academic and vocational career development of the student body. He is also responsible for the writing and ongoing evaluation of the school curriculum. In 1967, he married his wife Sister Mattie Jean Newman, and to this union was born three sons, La’Roi, Tremaine and Israel. Today, also he has four wonderful grandchildren. His pastoral enjoys the support the entire family.
